The projects and themes Barclays support under this program revolve around taking care of the neighbourhoods and community it operates in. Supporting causes that matter in local markets is one of the best ways that Barclays can meet specific needs and engage local stakeholders – be it the customers, community representatives or colleagues.
Barclays Pakistan has since inception focused essentially on “Kidney” related ailments. This year and beyond we aim to continue supporting “Preventive Health” initiatives including education, training and awareness building.
Relief work is another area where Barclays has stepped up in time of need. Whether it was supporting the victims of Marriott bombing in 2008 through Hashoo foundation or grant of GBP 25,000 to Red Crescent for IDPs; reaching out to affected communities is a core part of our global sustainability agenda. |

| BARCLAYS DIALYSIS DAY WITH SIUT |
Barclays Pakistan joined hands with SIUT in November 2008, committing to the funding of over Rs. 7 million, to bear the complete expenses of one day dialysis session at SIUT each month. The “Barclays Dialysis Day” (BDD) was held on the first day of every month. The project ended in January 2010. In addition to the funding, Barclays colleagues and their families volunteered several work hours on BDD during 2009.
In 2009 alone, SIUT spent over Rs. 1.2 billion, providing free treatment to over 650,000 patients from all over Pakistan. BDD touched the lives of patients by supporting over 6000 free dialysis sessions. |

| POSTGRADUATE TRAINING WITH THE KIDNEY CENTRE |
In line with our focus on kidney related areas, this project with The Kidney Centre Post Graduate Training Institute was initiated in 2009. The project gives Barclays the opportunity to educate and train several students annually through a Corporate Life Membership fee worth Rs. 1.5 million.
The Corporate Life Membership offers us the opportunity to play a role in the decision and policy making of The Kidney Centre, which brings an element of sustainability to the project along with a unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of both patients and doctors.
In addition to the positive impact this membership will make in the lives of many ailing kidney patients, The Kidney Centre also provides several opportunities to our colleagues to volunteer in a personal and professional capacity to assist and aid families in need. |
