Though proud of our heritage, we’re no longer just a British bank. The acquisition of a controlling stake in Absa, the development of Global Retail and Commercial Banking, and the continued rapid growth of Investment Banking and Investment Management are all designed to enable us to grow faster.

In 2000, just 20% of profit before tax came from outside the UK. In 2006, around 50% came from outside the UK.

Around half of our 2006 profit came from outside the UK.
